The owner of a Brampton karate studio is facing charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a nine-year-old student.

Members of the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit began an investigation into the suspect after receiving information that he had allegedly sexually assaulted the nine-year-old girl “on numerous occasions” while he was alone with her.

Satnam Rayat, 57, was then arrested on Sept. 24 and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Police say that Rayat was the owner and operator of Rayat Karate near Bovaird Drive in Brampton. Rayat also teaches classes in Mississauga, Burlington and Toronto, according to police.

The Special Victims Unit is continuing their investigation into the accused.
