Police have issued a public safety alert after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man who followed her into a North York apartment building over the weekend.

Police say the girl was followed into a residential building in the Graydon Hall Drive and Don Mills Road area at around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday by a man claiming to have forgotten his keys.

Once inside, police allege that the man began to engage the girl in an inappropriate sexual dialogue.

The man then followed the girl into the elevator and sexually assaulted her, police say.

Following the assault, the girl was able to leave the elevator, leaving the man behind.

The incident was then reported to police.

The man is described as Asian, in his mid-40s, about five-foot-nine and 200 lbs. with a tanned complexion, a stocky build and short, straight dark-brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a yellow T-shirt with a large red logo, black pants, a black baseball cap with a red logo and gloves.
