Rob Ford’s widow says she is “trying to move forward” following her husband’s death three months ago but remains committed to carrying on his legacy in the community.

Renata Ford made the comment to CP24 as she attended a campaign barbecue for Michael Ford on Saturday.

Michael Ford is one of 12 candidates vying to replace his uncle as city councillor for Ward 2, Etobicoke North. The vote is scheduled for July 25.

“We will support Michael in any way we possibly can. That’s what Rob would want; for us to continue the work he has been doing and to just give back to the community,” Renata said. “We love Etobicoke and we love Toronto, so we want to just keeping giving back.”

Renata Ford brought her children Douggie and Stephanie to Saturday’s barbecue on Rexdale Boulevard.

Reflecting on life since her husband’s death on March 22, Ford said there has been “good days and bad days.”

Ford, however, noted that Saturday was a good day, especially for her children who have missed being around the political process.

“They love it and they really want to get back into it,” she said. “Since their dad passed away they miss that part, the political part.”

Ford, who was the 64th mayor of Toronto, passed away at the age of 46 following a battle with a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer.

“It has been rough,” Ford’s 10-year—old daughter Stephanie told CP24 on Saturday. “A lot of kids at school have been asking how you doing and I just say ‘good.’ You just keep going in life.”
