One man is fighting for his life in hospital and two other people were seriously injured after a shooting outside a Woodbridge nightclub early Monday morning.

York Regional Police say officers were called to Cameo Lounge, in the area of Weston Road and Steeles Avenue, at around 2:45 a.m. Monday for reports of multiple shots fired.

When they arrived on scene, investigators found three people suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot in front of the nightclub.

Two of the victims, a 26-year-old Toronto man and a 26-year-old woman from Aurora, were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

A third victim, a 22-year-old Toronto man, was rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

“It has been described to me as quite a chaotic scene," Const. Andy Pattenden said Monday.

“Right now we do believe there was about 100 people in the club during this incident.”

Pattenden said investigators are currently going through video surveillance footage in the area and are appealing to anyone with dash camera video.

“We are looking for witnesses… There could have been people that left prior to talking to our officers. We do want to speak to those people. We need to know what has taken place here,” he said.

York Regional Police's forensic identification unit was on scene collecting evidence on Monday.

"Our forensic investigators are still there and will be there probably well into the afternoon trying to catalogue all of the evidence that’s there. A lot of shots were fired,” Pattenden added.

Police believe the shooting occurred in the parking lot in front of the club and Pattenden said investigators are not ruling out the possibility that more than one firearm was involved in the incident.

Police have not yet released any suspect information.

“In a case like this, with so many people around, it is only going to be a matter of time before we figure out who was involved,” Pattenden told reporters Monday.

“We highly recommend that the suspects seek legal counsel and turn themselves in.”
