A Toronto man was convicted of taking part in a $2 million credit card theft and identity fraud scheme was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday.

The Ontario Provincial Police say that on March 13, 2013, they came upon a 33-year-old Toronto man and another man driving a stolen car in the area of Mapleview Drive in Barrie.

Police said they arrested two men in the vehicle and later found 2,500 fake and stolen credit card numbers, fake Ontario drivers’ licenses and an imprint that could be used to make fake Ontario drivers’ licenses.

A suspect identified as Rajeer Henry Balendra, 33, was convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud over $5,000, illegal possession of counterfeit data, possession of counterfeit credit cards and identity theft.

Investigators say the scheme cost banks in the United States and Canada more than $2 million.

On Friday, Justice Susan Healey sentenced Balendra to four years in prison.
