York Regional Police say two people who were killed and a third who was wounded in a shooting in Richmond Hill appear to have been targeted.

Wednesday's triple shooting killed a man and a woman and sent a second man to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are looking for at least two suspects.

After residents reported hearing the sound of multiple gunshots shortly after midnight, police officers found all three victims in a bullet-riddled Lexus car in a parking lot at the Centre Green Co-op townhouse complex.

The complex is located at 172 Centre St. E., near Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive.

The woman died at the scene and one of the two men was pronounced dead at hospital.

At the scene, police spokesman Sgt. Clint Whitney said the double homicide does not appear to be a random act of violence.

Whitney said officers are looking for at least two suspects after two males were spotted fleeing on foot.

A canine unit was called in after the shooting was reported but officers were unable to locate the pair, Whitney told reporters.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865 or homicide@yrp.ca, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
