Police say a Toronto woman is facing charges after a pedestrian was struck and critically wounded in Scarborough on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Midland Avenue and Silver Star Drive shortly before 3 p.m.

Toronto police say a 38-year-old woman was driving her 2010 Honda Civic westbound on South Shields Drive when she attempted to make a left turn to go southbound on Midland Avenue. Police say the driver struck a 43-year-old man who was attempting to cross Midland Avenue. The woman, police say, left the scene of the collision and the pedestrian was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police say Bao Chen has been charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Feb. 25, 2015 at 2 p.m.
