TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs avoided arbitration with Martin Marincin, signing the defenceman to a two-year deal.

The average annual value of the contract is US$1.25 million.

Marincin was set to have an arbitration hearing on Aug. 2, but the Leafs managed to get their last remaining restricted free agent under contract.

The 24-year-old had one goal, six assists and 34 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Maple Leafs last season after being acquired in a trade with the Edmonton on June 27.

In 150 career NHL games, the Kosice, Slovakia native has recorded 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) and 66 penalty minutes.

Marincin was originally selected by Edmonton in the second round (46th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
