The City of Toronto has been permitted an injunction to spray garbage at temporary dump sites with pesticide despite opposition from residents.

Many residents around Christie Pits have been opposed to the park being used to store trash. They're not happy about the garbage being sprayed with insecticide to treat a growing maggot problem.

The City had to go to court for an injunction to go ahead with the spraying after pest control crews were denied access by protesters and picketers.

Himy Syed with the Friends of Christie Pits says it's up to everyone think more about reducing the amount of trash they generate.

The temporary dump site has filled up and will close later today on Day 14 of the city workers strike.
