Pop star Justin Bieber isn’t expected to appear make an appearance when his assault case returns to a Toronto courtroom Monday.

A lawyer is expected to appear on behalf of the 20-year-old singer, who is accused of hitting a limousine driver several times in the back of the head while he and his entourage were being driven from a downtown nightclub to a hotel early Dec. 30.

The Stratford, Ont., native turned himself in to police in January to face an assault charge.

Bieber’s lawyer previously told reporters the singer isn't expected to appear in court until a trial date is set.

The pop star is facing legal troubles on both sides of the border.

In the U.S., Bieber is facing charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired licence in Miami Beach, Fla.

He is also being investigated by police in Los Angeles County, where his neighbour’s house was egged in an exclusive enclave in Calabasas, Calif.

Earlier this month, police told a television station Bieber is being investigated for an alleged attempted robbery in the Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks.

Sgt. Paul McLaughlin said police were initially called because Bieber had allegedly tried to take a girl's phone.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred at a batting cage.

The alleged victim told TMZ that Bieber and his friends got into a scuffle with other people at the park.

When Bieber saw her reach for a phone to take pictures, the girl told TMZ that the pop star allegedly tried to grab it out of her hand.
