WELLAND, Ont. -- Niagara regional police are crediting a "brave" customer with foiling a bank robbery Friday afternoon in Welland.

Police say man entered the bank shortly after noon armed with a black handgun and approached a teller demanding money.

Police say a customer, already being tended to by the clerk, struggled briefly with the suspect, who fled without obtaining any money.

Police say the customer wasn't injured in the scuffle.

The suspect is described as a white male, medium build, about five-foot-ten, who wore a hooded sweater that concealed his face.
