A woman was rushed to hospital and her pet dog was revived by firefighters after the pair was rescued from a burning apartment suite early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews found the woman and her dog inside the smoke-filled suite in a building near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m., and firefighters say they encountered “heavy” flames when they arrived.

After they were pulled out of the building, the woman was taken to hospital in serious condition and firefighters revived her dog, which was initially without vital signs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
