A 25-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle and van collided in St. Catharines late Monday night.

The head-on crash occurred on St. Paul Street, near Highway 406, at about 10:30 p.m.

Niagara Regional Police said the St. Catharines man was westbound on his 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle when he crossed over the Burgoyne Bridge and approached Bellevue Terrance, where he failed to negotiate a “moderate” right-hand curve in the road.

The motorcycle crossed the centre line, entered the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with the front of a 2005 Kia van, police said.

The motorcyclist was thrown off his bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the van, a 47-year-old St. Catharines man, was not injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers continue to investigate the crash. Witnesses are asked to call police at 905- 688-4111 ext. 5500.
