A movie theatre and the food court at Scarborough Town Centre were evacuated Saturday evening after patrons smelled a noxious substance, Toronto police said.
Police said they were called to the area at 8 p.m., after patrons inside the movie theatre started coughing.
Firefighters and paramedics also arrived and the mall’s food court was evacuated.
Paramedics say one person is being treated on scene for respiratory complaints.
Emergency crews believe the substance is likely some sort of pepper spray that was released in a washroom. Witnesses told police that pepper spray was released by someone in the area.
