Toronto police are searching for a silver car they believe may be connected to the public execution of a 26-year-old father of two earlier this week.

Leonard Charles Fullerton was engaged in an argument with an unidentified suspect near Weston Road and Denarda Street on Tuesday afternoon when he turned around and began to walk away.

According to police, the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired five shots at Fullerton before fleeing eastbound on Denarda Street.

A witness then spotted a man matching the suspect’s description getting into a silver car nearby. An unidentified silver car was also captured by a dashboard camera on a police cruiser rushing to the scene along Weston Road.

That footage, which was captured a little more than a minute after the initial 911 call, was released to the media Friday with a plea to the driver of the car to come forward.

“It is undetermined at this point if this vehicle is the suspect vehicle, but I would appeal to the driver of the vehicle to come forward,” Det. Sgt. Frank Skubic told reporters Friday. “It’s a vehicle of interest right now.”

Police have previously described the suspect as a six-foot-tall black male with a light complexion and thin build.

Victim had drugs, money

On the day of his death, Fullerton left his home at around noon and was believed to be headed to a local gym, Skubic said.

It is not known where Fullerton spent his final hours.

Speaking to reporters Friday, Skubic said police are investigating whether the shooting may have been drug-related, as Fullerton was in possession of a quantity of drugs and cash at the time of his death.

Skubic said Fullerton was also known to “associate with gang members,” though was not a gang member himself.

“Part of our investigation certainly is to investigate what Mr. Fullerton was involved in at the time, however it’s unclear if the possession of these substances had anything to do with what precipitated the argument that led to his death,” Skubic said. “That’s something I hope to glean from the community. Certainly having a variety of drugs and having money leads me to suspect that he may have been dealing drugs in that area.”

Police plan to conduct a door-to-door canvass of the area surrounding the shooting scene Saturday morning.

“This murder will be solved,” Skubic said. “I believe firmly that the killer is known in this area or at least frequents this area on a regular basis.”
