Peel police canvassed a Brampton neighbourhood for clues Saturday after they ruled the death of 19-year-old Andrew DaCosta to be a homicide.
The teen, known to friends as ‘Freshy,’ was found by family members at his home on Zia Dodda Crescent, in the Ebenezer Road and County Road 50 area Friday around 5:30 p.m.
Police initially said the death was considered to be suspicious, but on Saturday morning Const. Thomas Ruttan told CP24 that the case is now classified as a homicide. Police also said DaCosta’s body showed obvious signs of trauma.
Area residents told CP24’s Cristina Tenaglia Saturday that DaCosta was ‘a nice guy’ who worked at a local factory and wasn’t the type to get involved in trouble.
There are no suspects in the case so far.
In the meantime, family and friends held candlelight vigil to remember DaCosta Saturday night at Via Romano Park.
About 75 people came to the park to mourn, pray, and remember.
“He was a really quiet guy,” one young woman at the vigil told CP24’s Cristina Tenaglia. “When there were issues or fights and stuff he would never be the one who was out there. He’d keep to himself.
“He has no enemies. He was a friendly guy… I was shocked.”
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the neighbourhood Friday is asked to call police.
