Police are actively searching for a suspect following a fatal hit-and-run in downtown Toronto during rush hour late Monday afternoon.
It happened at Gerrard and George streets shortly before 6 p.m.
Police initially described the male victim’s injuries as “very serious.” He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Toronto Paramedic Services said.
The pedestrian is believed to be in his late 20s, police said.
A witness at the scene told CP24 the pedestrian was intentionally run down following some sort of altercation, though police have not yet confirmed this detail.
A navy van that was seen fleeing the scene after the incident was located a short time later. The driver, however, has not been located.
He is described by police as South Asian, with a dark complexion, in his late 20s, with a slim build, and black hair.
He was last seen wearing a dark golf shirt.
The area remains closed as police continue to investigate.
