A male has been rushed to hospital after a stabbing outside a youth homeless shelter in the city's downtown core.

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. outside Covenant House near Yonge and Gerrard streets.

Sgt. Daniel Vega told CP24 at the scene that the victim was stabbed multiple times but his injuries appear to be non life-threatening.

"As far as we know he is in stable condition," he said.

The exact circumstances that led up to the stabbing are not known and police could not say if the victim and suspect knew one another or if they had any connection to the shelter.

"All we know is there was a fight," Vega added.

Police say a weapon was recovered at the scene and one male suspect, who has been described by police as "dangerous," is still at large.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call 51 Division at 416-808-5100.
