Toronto police have released security camera images of a suspect after an armed sexual assault in St. James Town.

The assault took place on April 9 at around 10:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the Parliament and Howard streets area, police said in a news release.

According to police, a 52-year-old woman was in an elevator of the apartment building when she was approached by a man who displayed a handgun and motioned for her to get out of the elevator.

She was then forced into a stairwell where she was sexually assaulted before the man fled, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 20 and 25 years of age. He stands five-foot-nine and has a medium build. He was last seen wearing blackjeans, a grey hooded sweater, grey vest, dark toque and tan shoes. He was carrying a red knapsack.

Police believe he is armed and dangerous and say anyone who spots him should call 911.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7474 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
