TORONTO - Toronto police have issued a direct appeal to students at a north-end high school as they continue their search for Mariam Makhniashvili.
The 17-year-old girl was last seen by her family when she left for Forest Hill Collegiate Institute with her younger brother last Monday.
Principal Peggy Aitchison told students this morning that she hoped the special assembly "jogs a memory or twigs a thought" that could help police find the teenager.
Staff Insp. Larry Sinclair asked students to "take their minds back to last Monday morning at about 8:40 a.m." when Mariam and her brother, George, walked to school a short distance from their home.
He assured students that if they recall something about this "jigsaw puzzle," and have not yet told police, they will not be in any trouble.
Det.-Sgt. Dan Nealon, the officer in charge of the search, also told students that police have no evidence to suggest an abduction or foul play. He asked students who might be aware of any computer screen names or user names Mariam might have used to advise police.
