Coun. Rob Ford is returning to the hospital later this week to undergo a second round of chemotherapy, his executive assistant Dan Jacobs confirms.

In a written statement released Tuesday, Jacobs said additional tests have also been scheduled.

The former mayor underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his abdominal area more than five months ago and appeared to be recovering but at the end of October, Ford confirmed that a second tumour was found on his bladder that would require more treatment.

Ford previously said he was hoping he would not have to undergo more than two rounds of chemo.

“If I only have to do two rounds and they can operate at Christmas time that would be my Christmas gift,” Ford told reporters last month.
