Police have released surveillance camera footage of a group of suspects wanted in the savage beating of a teenager in the city’s downtown core more than two months ago.

The 17-year-old victim exited a taxi on York Street just south of Queen Street in the early morning hours of Aug. 3 and was subsequently approached by six men.

Police say the men then punched, kicked and stomped on the victim’s head, causing him to suffer serious head trauma and go into a coma.

Police tell CP24.com that the victim remained in a coma for a full month, but has since regained consciousness and was transferred to a rehab centre to continue his recovery two weeks ago.

The suspects, meanwhile, were last seen running westbound along Richmond Street and Queen Street West, towards University Avenue, where three of them got into a northbound taxi.

Police tell CP24.com that they are investigating a number of possible motives for the attack, including robbery.

The suspects are described as five black men and one white man between the ages of 18 and 25.

It is not known what, if any, relationship the suspects had with the victim.
