Fire causes $200,000 damage at historic Muskoka inn

The damage was extensive after a fire at the Delta Sherwood Inn near Port Carling on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.

Fire has caused major damage at a historic Muskoka hotel near Port Carling, the Delta Sherwood Inn.

Firefighters were called to the hotel at about 8:30 a.m. on Friday, where they found the main building's dining room, veranda and reception area engulfed in flames.

Damage was mostly limited to those rooms in the three-alarm fire. There were no injuries but guests and staff were evacuated from the inn.

Damage to the property is estimated to be about $200,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials suspect it may have been electrical.
