Homicide detectives are looking for a suspect after a man was fatally shot in a midtown park early Wednesday morning.

Police spokesman Const. Tony Vella told CP24 the man suffered a gunshot wound and was without vital signs when he was found in Oriole Park, near Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent, at about 3 a.m.

Police went to the park after someone heard a gunshot and called 911.

Officers scoured the area for several minutes before finding the man near a children's playground in the northeast corner of the park, close to the intersection of Yonge and Chaplin.

Toronto EMS told CP24 the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name and age have not been released. He is the city's 16th homicide victim of 2012.

Later Wednesday morning, officers conducted a grid search in an attempt to find evidence at the crime scene.
