A man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning after turning himself into Toronto police following a two-day manhunt.

Kyle Weese, 24, is charged in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Bailey Zaveda, who was standing outside an east end bar Saturday morning when a fight broke out and a gun was drawn.

Zaveda was shot in the torso and died in the Duke of York Tavern's entranceway.

Weese was dressed in an orange jumpsuit and stood calmly during his court appearance, glancing at his mother and brother.

The bullets hit six people in total, including Weese's younger brother, who was sitting in the front row of the courtroom Tuesday morning. The short sleeves of his t-shirt clearly displayed the bullet wound in his arm where he was shot.

Weese was remanded into custody with a second court date set for Nov. 5.

An intense manhunt involving several police units ensued after Weese was named a suspect in connection with the murder.

He turned himself into 55 Division accompanied by two lawyers shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Weese faces a charge of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Zaveda's funeral has been scheduled for Saturday morning in her hometown of Brockville, located east of Kingston.
