A 13-year-old has been arrested after allegedly threatening to open fire at an Oshawa school on Snapchat.
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) say they were called to a home in Oshawa shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving a report of a school-related threat.
Following an investigation, police say they determined that a teenager threatened several people over the social media platform, saying Pierre Elliott Trudeau Public School on Beatrice Street East in Oshawa was going to get “shot up.”
Police found the teen at that residence and arrested them, adding charges were diverted in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
“Police take all threats to school safety very seriously and conduct thorough investigations to protect students, staff, and the community,” the news release issued Sunday reads.
Investigators say there’s no risk to public safety and there’s no threat to the public school.
