The husband of a University of Toronto office clerk found dead last year has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case, Toronto police announced Friday.

At a news conference at 5 p.m., police said they had arrested 32-year-old Demitry Papasotiriou, of Toronto, for first-degree murder in connection with the death of his husband Allan Lanteigne in 2011.

Lanteigne, 49, was found dead inside his Ossington Avenue home on March 3, 2011.

Police said that they were called to the address after a co-worker grew concerned when Lanteigne failed to show up for work.

“At its root, this is a domestic homicide,” Toronto police Det. Tam Bui said during the press conference.

The arrest comes after officers with Toronto and Peel police executed three search warrants - two in Toronto and one in Mississauga - Friday.

“It’s been a day of mixed emotions,” Lanteigne’s bother-in-law Don Sterritt said Friday afternoon.

“When you lose someone through something so senseless and tragic as a murder, it’s almost incomprehensible for ordinary people like us,” he said.

A warrant has also been issued for a second man wanted in connection with Lanteigne’s death.

Mladen “Michael” Ivezic, 52, of Mississauga, is wanted for first-degree murder.

Police believe Ivezic is currently in Europe.

“The world can be a very small place when the Toronto police homicide squad and Interpol are hunting you,” Bui said before urging Ivezic to contact legal counsel and surrender to police.
