A 19-year-old Brampton man who was wounded in a shooting on the CNE grounds last Sunday has died of his injuries, Toronto police say.

Police said the victim, Naveed Shahnawaz, died in a Toronto hospital early Friday morning.

The early-morning shooting occurred when a group of men got into a fight in a parking lot across from Muzik nightclub, police said. The shooting did not occur on the nightclub's property.

One of the men was armed with a gun and fired several shots, striking Shahnawaz and a 23-year-old man.

A short time later, at least one Toronto police officer who responded to the incident fired several gunshots at a car that was leaving the scene. The bullet-riddled car and three occupants, including two others who had gunshot wounds, were located nearby.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the police-involved shooting, while police are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred during the fight.

At the time of Shahnawaz’s death, three Toronto men were already facing charges for their alleged roles in the fight.

Tony Hoang Dinh, 18, was charged with more than dozen offences, including two counts of attempted murder with a firearm.

Jonathan Kwok-Ho Lau, 19, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance, while Hoan Nguyen, 26, was charged with assault.

The homicide squad has taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting.

Shahnawaz is Toronto’s seventh homicide victim of 2013.
