York Regional Police say a woman who was found dead inside a Richmond Hill condominium early Saturday morning was murdered.

Officers were called to a unit inside the building on Yonge Street north of Elgin Mills Road at around 2 a.m.

Once inside they found the woman's body.

According to police, a man was arrested at the scene in connection with her death.

The relationship between the man and the woman is not known.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

On Saturday morning one resident of the building described the incident as "highly unusual."

"Most residents are over 65 (years of age). There is not many people in here that would even be capable of violence," Tony Dwyer told CP24. "Most people can't even walk around that well."

The woman has not been identified pending notification of next of kin and the cause of death has not been released.
