Fire in Oakville sends woman to hospital

One woman was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire in an office building in Oakville Monday night.  

The fire broke out in a building located at 1454 Cornwall Rd.

There is currently no word on what caused the fire or an estimate on the damage.

Highway 27 reopened following crash

UPDATE: A stretch of Highway 27 has reopened in Vaughan following a serious crash between a pickup truck and tractor-trailer Monday morning.

The highway had been closed between King Vaughan Road and King Road since the collision occurred at about 6:40 a.m. The closure lasted until around 8 p.m.

The pickup truck's driver was trapped inside that vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters before being rushed to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries, York Regional Police said.

Police haven't released the age or gender of the pickup truck driver.

The pickup truck wound up in the ditch and sustained significant damage in the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Highway 407 closed for investigation

A man is in custody after he refused to exit his vehicle during a traffic stop and kept police at bay on Highway 407 on Monday morning, York Regional Police say.

Officers were on patrol in Markham at about 9 a.m. when they discovered a licence plate violation on a car and attempted to stop the driver, police told CP24.

Police boxed in the man's car to bring it to a stop in the highway's westbound lanes, but he refused to get out or co-operate with officers.

As a precaution, the highway's westbound and eastbound lanes were shut down between Kennedy and Markham roads as police dealt with the matter.

Tactical support officers were brought in to remove the man from the car.

The man was taken into custody after two hours after police stopped the vehicle. The highway fully reopened at about 11:40 a.m.

Man rushed to hospital after stabbing

A 45-year-old man has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a stabbing near Lawrence Avenue and Weston Road.

It happened around 9:30 a.m.

According to police, the man was stabbed multiple times.

The severity of his injuries is not known.

One person is in custody as a result.
