The transit union is firing back after a published report about customer complaints lodged against the TTC.

A detailed list of 300 customer complaints has been made public after a Freedom of Information request by the Toronto Star.

The majority of the complaints are about poor customer service, as opposed to fares or delays. However, the Amalgamated Transit Union is downplaying the report, calling it "unfair" and "distorted" in a press release.

Union president Bob Kinnear says that last year there was an average of one complaint for every quarter-of-a-million riders.

He says the complaints are only one side of the story and this statistic "compares very favourably" with other large transit systems in North America.

The union is holding town hall meetings to address the situation of customer service and ease tensions between riders and TTC workers.
