A new poll suggests that although John Tory still leads the mayoral race, Doug Ford may not be such a distant second.

The Mainstreet Technologies poll, which randomly surveyed 2,409 respondents on Sept. 28, shows that 37 per cent of respondents said they would support Tory, 30 per cent said they would vote for Ford, 21 per cent said they would support Olivia Chow and 12 per cent said they were undecided.

Among those who said they had made a decision about who they will be voting for on Oct. 27, Tory received 42 per cent support from respondents, eight percentage points higher than Ford and 18 percentage points higher than Chow.

The poll also tracked the number of those who claimed they would be likely to go out and vote on election day.

Of those who were likely to vote, 42 per cent said they intended to support Tory, 27 per cent said they would support Ford, 21 per cent said they would vote for Chow and nine per cent said they were not sure.

“Doug Ford's forceful entry into the mayoral campaign including his now infamous debate performance has scared some votes away from Olivia Chow to John Tory and he's taken some anti-Tory votes as well as he becomes the clear alternative," Mainstreet Technologies President Quito Maggi said in a written statement.

“John Tory's numbers continue to be solid across the city and in particular, among those voters most likely to vote. Olivia Chow must shake up the race at this stage if she wants to recapture support and distinguish herself.”

The poll is considered accurate to within plus or minus 1.99 per cent.
