York Regional Police have charged a man with impaired driving-related charges after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Vaughan late Wednesday night.

Police said the motorcyclist - a 45-year-old man from Richmond Hill - died after he collided with a pickup truck on the northbound off-ramp of Highway 400 at Major Mackenzie Drive at about 11:45 p.m.

The motorcycle was heading east, while the truck was westbound, said police, who shut down Major Mackenzie Drive between Jane Street and Highway 400 for about seven hours for an investigation.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, despite efforts to revive him.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said Etobicoke resident Larry Oliveira, 30, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing Thursday.

Third fatality in about as many weeks

The crash was the third fatality involving a motorcyclist in the GTA in almost three weeks.

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck at Marlee and Glengrove avenues in Toronto.

Before that, a 49-year-old male motorcyclist died in a multi-vehicle crash on Tomken Road, near Eglinton Avenue East, in Mississauga on Aug. 22.

On Thursday, a pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorcycle on Victoria Park Avenue, near York Mills Road, in Toronto.

Police continue to investigate all three crashes.
