The province’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a 34-year-old woman who they say fell from a balcony of a residence in Toronto’s downtown core.

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), officers received a call shortly before 10:50 p.m. for reports of a person standing on the railing of a balcony at a residence in the area of King Street West and Spadina Avenue.

When officers arrived, the SIU said, they attempted to communicate with the woman but moments later, she fell.

She was pronounced dead in hospital.

“The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529,” the SIU said in a news release.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in a death, serious injury, allegations of sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm.
