OSHAWA, Ont. - An 18 year old was charged with second-degree-murder Wednesday as students joined an impromptu gathering to remember a 16-year-old fatally stabbed outside his Toronto-area school.

Jacques Amakon, of Oshawa, Ont., was remanded in custody this morning in the death of fellow student Michael McDonald.

McDonald was stabbed during a fight at a bus stop Tuesday near Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School in Oshawa, Ont., and died in hospital.

Emotional students who descended on the bus stop this morning comforted one another.

They said things wouldn't be the same without the victim.

"Mike was a good guy. He was always supportive of the football team," said one grieving student.

"I don't know how this could happen. It's just a tragic moment. Everyone's going to miss him. The football team will never be the same without him."

Another student said it was "shocking that someone actually has the heart to do this," calling McDonald "such an innocent guy."

"He was like a teddy bear to everyone. He would always try to do everything for everyone else."

Amakon also faces a dangerous-weapons charge.

Police were looking for a knife used in the attack, described as a kitchen or steak knife.

They allege the accused had a knife when he walked away from the altercation but did not have it when he was arrested.

A school-board spokeswoman said a crisis team was being made available to students, along with prayer groups and chaplains.
