TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty was scrambling to change the channel Monday on expense scandals that have dominated the headlines and cast an embarrassing pall on his fall agenda.
Questionable spending at eHealth Ontario and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. were hot topics in the legislature as the autumn session got off to a fiery start.
Opposition leader Tim Hudak used his first question as the new Conservative chief to attack the premier for his "summer of scandal."
Both the Tories and New Democrats say McGuinty and Health Minister David Caplan misled the legislature when they said in June that an independent review of troubled eHealth Ontario management practices had been ordered.
In fact, the review never got underway because the government cancelled it, saying it would have duplicated efforts by Ontario's auditor general, who is also probing the agency.
The parties have asked Speaker Steve Peters to review the issue and rule on it.
