Chris Potter

Meteorologist
Chris Potter

February 2024: Chris Potter is no longer with the company.

Chris Potter joined CP24 in 2008 as a meteorologist. He can be seen updating viewers with all their weather details every weekday during the late afternoon and evening. Whether it is fair or stormy weather, he delivers the weather news viewers need to know to get through the day, while hopefully teaching them something and having a little fun along the way.

Potter has covered several of the GTA’s most prominent recent weather events, such as the December 2013 ice storm, and the tornado outbreak of August 2009. Potter has also covered the bitter winters of 2014/15 and 2007/08.

Potter has 12 years of experience forecasting the weather across Canada and the GTA. Prior to his role at CP24, he started with The Weather Network in 2004 where he served as a briefing and forecasting meteorologist. In 2007, he began his broadcast career with CityTV before moving to CP24.

Originally from Halifax N.S., Potter is a graduate of Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science, with a Major in Physics and a Diploma in Meteorology.

While studying meteorology, two significant weather events impacted Nova Scotia and reinforced his love for weather and his chosen career path. During the February blizzard of 2004 known as “White Juan”, Potter was stranded at the Halifax International Airport for two days when the entire city was shut down and covered in a meter of snow. Just months before, Hurricane Juan knocked out the power to his family home for an entire week and trees were knocked down by strong winds. Without power, drastic measures were made to not let the meat in the freezer go to waste. This allowed “meatpalooza” to be born as he barbequed for the whole neighbourhood. Potter still enjoys barbequing and has almost perfected smoked ribs.

Potter lives in Barrie, Ont. and spends his off time outside of the house. Whether it’s camping, hiking, skiing, playing with his crazy border collie, or golfing – as long as it’s in the fresh air, that’s where he would rather be. He has yet to score a hole in one but has no problem attempting it numerous times during the season.
